recently caught up with Cohan, who teased Maggie's dark story arc in television series. The actor admitted that her character would be tested following the relative peace after the brutal war with the Commonwealth, both from external and personal threats. Read what Cohan hinted about 's plot below:

"We end up picking up in New York at the bottom of a really unexpected mountain, where maybe things have gone well for a period of time, but we're back at this challenge, just like these challenges that always seem to keep cropping up.""Nothing is through rose-colored glasses. Because the thing that comes up, it's like, okay, so we overcame this obstacle of the Commonwealth and these things, that doesn't mean life is easy just because you quashed one enemy. And the enemy is this moving target. It's also the enemy within.""When we go into the new show, Maggie's greatest weakness is definitely exploited. Sometimes it's not the big things that are the hard things, it's the little things. And those little things become very, very big things because they are our own blind spots, and they are our own greatest weakness."

Everything We Know About Dead City

A few years after , the six-episode spinoff series will partner with former enemies Maggie and Negan as they journey to the island of Manhattan in New York City. The packed borough will be stuffed with walkers and various groups of survivors who call the massive post-apocalyptic city their home. Although Cohan gives little details about what causes Maggie to leave relatively safe in the Commonwealth, the actor's comments regarding Maggie's "" being "" indicate her motivation is very personal.

Following her husband, Glenn Rhee's (Steven Yuen) murder, Maggie has hardened her resolve, as seen by the lengths she has undergone to and protect her friends. However, Maggie's one actual vulnerability has always been her son, Herschel, and her last connection to Glenn. may see Herschel taken from her, resulting in Negan teaming up with Maggie to help get him back. Negan may feel obliged to allow her to atone for killing her Glenn.

Although Maggie told Negan that she would never truly forgive him for what he did, their brief partnership against the Commonwealth teases the fierce and capable team they would make in the upcoming spinoff series. Morgan previously teased that in the new show. What causes such a character turn has remained under wraps. With premiering on AMC in April 2023, audiences must wait a little longer to see what causes Maggie and Negan to New York.
